A VIOLENT SHAKING

God created a world of perfection (Genesis 1:1), then chaos erupted (verse 2). But what brought about this judgment? What caused this paradise called earth to become such a barren, black, empty place?

Scripture describes a God so upset that He literally shook the world:“Which removeth the mountains, and they know not: which overturneth them in his anger. Which shaketh the earth out of her place, and the pillars thereof tremble. Which commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars” (Job 9:5-7).

According to the Bible, nothing like that has ever happened since the creation of man, nor will it take place after the coming of the Lord. Not even when God creates a brand new earth. Therefore this could only be pre-Adamic when there was darkness on the face of the deep (Genesis 1:2). That is when God commanded the sun not to rise and He sealed up the stars in the heavens (Job 9:7).

If God declared, “Let there be light,” on the first day of the recreated earth, but the sun did not shine until day four (Genesis 1:14-19), what was the original light? It was God’s awesome presence. And we know this because in John’s revelation of the new heaven and new earth “the city had no need for the sun, neither of the moon, to shine in it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the Lamb is the light thereof” (Revelation 21:23).

What an amazing day that will be!
